Your own vive.org.au email address…
December 11th, 2006
How would you like the email address yourname@vive.org.au (or something similar, of your choosing)…
- Want an email address that never expires when you forget to login for a month?
- Want an address people can remember (unlike, say, eat_my_shorts_3244@whatever.com)?
- Want reliable email managed by Google, but ending in vive.org.au?
- Want email that you can either get to on a website and/or download to your email program (like Outlook or Outlook Express)?
- Want 2 Gigabytes of email storage that means you don’t ever have to delete anything if you don’t want to?
- Want a set of steak-knives with that?
OK OK. We can’t do the last one but we can do the rest!
Vive owns the domain name vive.org.au and we’ve assigned email management to Gmail, Google’s free email service.
If you’re a Vive regular and you’d like your very own vive.org.au email address, then all you have to do is email Alister Cameron with your preference for an email address (the bit before the ‘@’ character) and a password (which you can later update any time you like, by yourself).
A bonus of this Vive email system - managed by Google - is that anyone with a vive.org.au email address will be listed in your contacts list automatically (and you in theirs), and in your Google Talk buddy list, making it really easy to contact others in Vive.
Also, as Google add more and more amazing programs and services to their list of online applications (things like a calender, word processing program and all that jazz), you’re in line to get these automatically.
If you’re already a Gmail user, this offer amounts to the same system you use now, but a different account and email address (no, sorry - your emails and stuff can’t be brought over automatically, but there are ways you can do it manually.)
Ok, over to you! First in best dressed, in terms of what email addresses are available. If you have a very common name you want for your email address, I suggest you offer me more than one preference.
(Note: certain addresses are not available, like “vive” or “admin” or “email”, etc. Safe to stick with your firstname of nickname, I’d suggest.)
Enjoy!
