Vive is the Crossway Young Adults ministry focussed on people aged roughly 18-25.
We meet as a community on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month at 7:30pm in the Crossway Warehouse Café (downstairs).
There are about 60-80 regulars, at the moment, and a lot more of that age-group floating around.
We run regular social events, although there is so much happening informally, that we’re not making a big deal of socials. At this age, people are very capable of organising their own fun, and we focus our efforts a lot on encouraging people to invite each other to whatever they’re doing.
We have been running Growth Groups (groups of about 8-12 people meeting weekly for Bible study, prayer, etc). These have been formally suspended for a while as we re-evaluate how we run them, but some people continue to meet this way, which is great. We just had some burnt-out leaders and felt it best to give them a break for a bit.
We have just started with a new initiative, where we’re encouraging everyone at Vive to meet up with two other friends, for accountability and prayer. I can more fully explain this to you at another time, but we see this kind of group of three as the basic “building block” of Christian life. In a group like this, our people (try to) keep to a regime of Bible reading, praying for their non-Christian friends, and confessing their sins to each other. This latter bit sounds scary, but it’s basically about being held accountable for your life and decisions with people you trust and are committed to “doing life” with.
Vive is working really hard to make sure that when God looks at us he sees a bunch of young people who are both having tons of fun and also taking their Christian faith and walk really seriously. Vive is a “community with a cause”, meaning that we exist not for ourselves, but for the mandate we’ve been given from God, to “make disciples” of the nations… starting, of course, in Melbourne with our own friends, family, workmates, etc.
Most importantly, if you’re roughly our age, roughly in our area, and looking for a great group of young people to be a part of, we’d love you hang out with us for a while and see if you like us!
